Our parish, a member of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), is a warm, family-friendly community. Our service are in English, and we follow the teachings of the apostles and the early church fathers. We have active Church Education and outreach programs. We welcome you to our Church, and we encourage you to learn more about our faith and our parish.
The Nativity of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Mission is part of the Diocese of the South, and of the Orthodox Church in America. It is also a Church which is in communion with all Canonical Orthodox Churches.
Nativity of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Church was founded on September 7, 1981, when a small group of faithful gathered to establish a new Orthodox mission in Charlotte, naming it after the Feast of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin celebrated the following day. The mission celebrated its first Divine Liturgy later that month and worshipped in several temporary locations before building its permanent church home on Mineral Springs Road in 1986.
Over the years, many devoted clergy helped nurture and grow the parish, including Fr. Seraphim Storheim, Fr. Theodore Panchak, Fr. Jacob Kulp, Fr. Dennis Smith, Fr. Ignatius Crockett, Fr. Henry Paul Boisvert, and Fr. William Mills, who has served as pastor since 2000. Today, the parish continues to flourish as a vibrant Orthodox Christian community with a renovated education building and classrooms for church school.
